Steam, cooling – from heat that was wasted.
Our concept is innovative in that it not only uses waste heat to generate steam for sterilisation, but also operates absorption chillers to provide cooling.
Current process, new additional process.
Today, waste is loaded and incinerated, and the exhaust leaves at around 600 °C. The new additional process uses the available area next to the line for a heat exchanger, a steam generator and an absorption chiller.
Three components, one route.
Each step takes energy that would otherwise be cooled off and released, and puts it to productive use.

Heat exchanger
Captures heat from the flue gas before it is cooled and released.
Steam generator
Produces steam for sterilisation – a need the facility already has.
Absorption chiller
Turns heat into cooling for the plant itself and adjacent buildings.
A starting point for industrial symbiosis.
The cooling is foreseen to be used by the waste incineration plant itself and by buildings in the adjacent industrial area – a starting point for industrial symbiosis.
In addition, the project will explore a novel approach: using cooling derived from waste heat directly for certain sterilisation processes.
Together, this maximises resource efficiency by putting otherwise lost energy to productive use.

Help build the next installations.
We welcome industry partners at an early stage, to make heat recovery from incineration affordable, standardised and easy to retrofit.
